  • Sarah M., Mother of Three

"Before finding Wells Trust Farm, I was constantly worried about what was in the meat I was feeding my kids. Now with our quarter beef share, I have a freezer full of premium Black Angus that I can trust. The convenience is incredible—no more last-minute grocery store runs—and the value is undeniable. Each cut is better than anything I found at specialty butchers, but the overall price per pound makes it affordable for our family. The peace of mind knowing exactly where our food comes from? That's honestly priceless."

  • Michael J., Food Security Enthusiast

"I researched dozens of farms before choosing Wells Trust Farm for our half beef share. The transparency AJ and Stephanie provide about their feeding practices and animal care made the decision easy. The cutting options let us customize everything to our preferences, and the quality is consistently restaurant-grade. We're saving at least 35% compared to buying the same cuts retail, and having six months of premium beef on hand gives us real food security. Best investment in our family's health we've ever made."

  • Jennifer and Tom K., Empty Nesters

"We split a quarter beef with our neighbors, and it's been perfect for our smaller household. The Wells family walked us through every step of the process, from selecting cuts to organizing our freezer. The taste difference is remarkable—you can immediately tell this beef was raised right. We love supporting a multi-generational family farm while getting meat that's far superior to anything at the grocery store. Plus, having premium steaks always on hand means we can have 'restaurant night' at home whenever we want for a fraction of the cost."

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Is Our Pork Different?

Why Is Our Pork Different?

What breed are your hogs?
We raise Berkshire hogs — a heritage breed known for darker color, rich marbling, and deep flavor. Most grocery store pork comes from fast-growing commercial breeds that prioritize volume over taste.

Why does the breed matter?
Berkshire pork has more intramuscular fat, which means juicier chops, more tender roasts, and flavor that actually tastes like pork. Commercial pork is often lean, pale, and bland by comparison.

How are your hogs raised?
Our hogs are raised on open pasture with room to root and roam. Grocery store pork typically comes from confinement operations where animals never see the outdoors.

Do you use hormones or antibiotics?
Never. No added hormones, no antibiotics, no shortcuts. Most conventional pork operations rely on routine antibiotics to manage the stress and conditions of confinement housing.

Why does pasture-raised pork cost more?
Heritage hogs grow slower and require more space and care than commercial breeds. That extra time and attention is what produces the marbling, texture, and flavor you can't get from a factory operation.

Where does your pork come from?
Our Berkshire hogs come from trusted American partner farms that share our standards for animal care, pasture access, and clean raising practices.

How is it packaged?
Every cut is hand-cut, vacuum-sealed, and flash-frozen to lock in freshness. It arrives at your door frozen and ready for your freezer.

How much freezer space will I need?

Here's the typical freezer space guidance for hog shares:

Half Hog: Approximately 4–5 cubic feet of freezer space. This usually yields around 80–100 lbs of packaged meat, which fits in a standard medium chest freezer or takes up about half of a typical upright freezer.

Whole Hog: Approximately 8–10 cubic feet of freezer space. This usually yields around 160–200 lbs of packaged meat, requiring a full-size chest or upright freezer.
